Four Hurt in Rush-Hour Pile-Up on Foundry Street in Easton
November 12, 2012
In late October, a five vehicle pile-up on Foundry Street sent four people to the hospital and backed up traffic in Easton for hours. According to Easton Fire Captain David Beals, the rush-hour accident occurred after one vehicle rear-ended another in the eastbound lane of the roadway near Five Corners. The initial crash reportedly caused a chain reaction and several additional rear-end collisions followed. Beals stated one vehicle caught fire after the crash, but a citizen was able to extinguish the blaze before rescue crews arrived. Beals said two adults and two minor children suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries as a result of the traffic accident. Following the crash, two of those injured were transported by medical personnel to Norwood Hospital. The other two victims were taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital. The exact cause of the rear-end collision is currently under investigation by local authorities.
Rear-end accidents are common in Massachusetts. Too often, insurance companies work hard to deny the personal injury claim of someone who was struck from behind by another motorist. Fortunately, the law in Massachusetts assumes rear-end crashes were caused by a driver who was following too closely or not paying enough attention to traffic. When a driver is hit from behind by another vehicle, he or she may suffer a neck injury, broken bones, a spine or other back injury, damaged nerves, and other injuries. For some auto accident victims, connective tissue trauma such as whiplash may cause debilitating headaches and other pain. Additionally, serious and traumatic head injuries are common in rear-end collisions. Such an injury may result in temporary or permanent disability and even death.
The victim of a rear-end or other motor vehicle accident in Massachusetts may be eligible to recover financial compensation for their medical treatment, lost wages, any resulting disability, pain, suffering, and other damages. If you or a relative was hurt in a rear-end or other automobile collision, you should contact a qualified personal injury attorney as soon as possible after your injury.
